About The Music:
DRAKExTAYLOR (Drake Taylor) is a powerhouse (writing and producing since age 14 and performing since age 3) and a threat to music as we know it today. After growing up in the era of the pop-fusion sound, he frequently blends Hyperpop with R&B and Pop music, coining the term ‘Hyper-R&B’. In 2020, he released his first demo mixtape, ‘HyperWRLD’ (2020), started at age 14, noted for its vivid sonic atmosphere, drawing comparison to works by industry innovators Imogen Heap and Björk. A year later, he released ‘Rrebel: Part 1’, later ending the Rrebel era early, due to artistic evolution. Roadie Music describes ‘Rrebel’ as "a bold proposal to rescue the Electropop Hits from the late '00s and early '10s that changed music as we see it today." In Summer of 2021 he began releasing singles, slowly transitioning from Indie Teen Pop Creator to Mature R&B/Pop Innovator, embracing more of his personal taste in music.
Since then, he has released R&B heavier projects, like ‘Beg for It’, and ‘Ride’. Thematically, most of his music is centered around love, heartbreak, and his experiences in ride or die relationships. He has also previously released Anthemic-Hyperpop-Bangers, such as ‘Nothing Compares to You’, acclaimed for its "ear-worm hook-ability" and ‘Stay’. Embracing the progressive approach of his style, he has released songs like ‘All That I Need’, which offer traditional R&B Vocal Stacking combined with an almost Rap-type-flow, and an anthemic Hyper-Pop/Rage production. However, he also offers some more traditional sounding Pop-R&B, such as ‘Your Way’ and gut-wrenching ‘I’m Going Down’, acclaimed for its “tenderly aggressive” vocal delivery (Stereohearts R&B). He has teamed with various artists, including RYL0 on "ear-scraping" ‘Business’ (Dummy).
His style is frequently categorized as heavy-handed and hook-heavy, landing somewhere between the Super Bowl Halftime Performance, and 2000s R&B Slow Jams. His vocal style is known for its range in both tone and approach, making him a name for his versatility as a performer over everything else. He stands out vocally for the strong, yet emotive quality of his voice. As a producer, his production style is very rooted, as he is quoted saying, “Good music has gut”. His drums take influence mainly from 90s Boom Bap, Timbaland, and Brazilian Funk. He credits the development of his production style to learning to produce with a limited number of tools, forcing him to a create new sound. His production style often includes ambient qualities, taking influence from Deep House Pioneer Larry Heard and Tinashe, creating sonic environments, paired with his trippy synth-sound design anthemic melodies, and R&B Vibes. He cites various influences, such as Gwen Stefani, 6lack, Ty Dolla $ign, Timbaland, Aaliyah, Tinashe, SoFaygo, Clams Casino, and Kehlani. He breaks genre boundaries frequently, describing his genre simply as "Commercial" consisting mainly of Pop, R&B, and Hyper-Pop. Lately, he has been shifting towards a more club friendly/House Party R&B Vibe, citing artists like Chris Brown and Ciara.
